biography
Liza Shkirando is a visual artist based in Malmö, Sweden. Her practice blends oil painting and sculpture with conceptual, transgressive experiments across video and performance.
Drawing on personal experience, Liza explores identity, paradox, and cultural binaries through a queer, anarchist lens. Her work engages the body as medium and subject, challenging norms and pushing symbolic boundaries.
experience
Liza joined the microresidency in October 2024, traveling from Malmö with a clear project in mind, but also with a generous openness to everything Leipzig—its spaces and its people—might offer her. She already knew the city, but this time she came with the intention of diving deeper into its countercultural scene and, above all, of working on large-format painting in the context of my studio.
During the residency, she visited exhibitions related to her practice and was able to carry out the large-scale works she had previously conceptualized.
The process culminated in an experimental open studio, where she presented her ongoing work through projections combined with analog printmaking techniques. This event allowed both of us to share our creative processes, open the studio to the public, and collaborate with DJs whose sounds resonated with the spirit of her paintings.
testimonial
Microdesidencias with Paula made me feel like Leipzig is my second home, full of opportunities and discoveries. She created an inspiring atmosphere of creative freedom at her fantastic studio at Westwerk.
